The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

no one playing the great golf course
played vistoso today(saturday before memorial day) no one was out there was in the second group off today and was not crowed at all greens are in very good shape, yes there is some burnout in the fairways and i am sure that will be corrected with a punch or some thatching of the fairways, but over all course in very good shape and it always a pleasure to play pro shop staff is awesome and so is the outside services, only complaint beverage cart girl kinda disappears during the round only saw her twice once on the front and once on the back nine
Vistoso
Played the Blacks (6872/72.1/143) as a single in 3.5 H. Played through 2 groups and was rarely held up on a sunny, breezy day around 90. Extremely tough driving course, many long forced carries and lost ball native scape down both sides of almost every fairway. The course overall was in much better condition than when I played here last summer. Having previously seen the layout definitely assists here as some holes turn and landing areas are obscured. The tees were level, lush and very well maintained. The fairways were mostly lush and good to play from. Occasionally thin with a few poor areas. The rough was lush and thick. Just tall & thick enough to be a 1/2 club penalty and grab your club if you were not precise. The traps were a mixed bag. Most were decent, but a few were hard packed where they should not be around greens. The large greens were good. Medium fast, firm with few ball marks and held well struck irons well. I played the front with almost no wind in 1H, 15M where I was on or around every green in regulation. I played the back in a 2-3 club wind in 2H, 15M where I had to adjust 3 holes for ESC and spent plenty of time looking in the cactus. The layout has five par 5's and five par 3's and all the holes offer an excellent variety. None make you feel like you just played that hole a few holes back like on some courses. The par 3's are demanding from the tips. 188,178,197, 221,198, all with a significant forced carry. Unusual for a course to average 195 on the five par 3's from the tips. The par 5's are 530,572,528,589 & 486... 3 of them are excellent risk/reward holes where longer hitters can have a go at the green in 2 if they hit a good drive in play. The other 2 are position par 5's where you need to advance the ball prudently. One short par 4 @ 332, one long one @ 465. However, this course does not beat you up on the par 4's as they are mostly in the 400 yard range from the tips. Playing in the desert, this course plays a little shorter than the 6872 yards listed. The cart gal was around multiple times and the customer service was excellent from everyone. You kind of get a private club feel here, definitely recommended... just come in knowing that anything more than a little short, left or right is going to be a likely lost ball in the cactus.
left stranded on the 13 th hole
while playing a late afternoon round our electric golf cart lost its charge on the 13th hole. we (playing as twosome) called the pro shop for assistance, told no one available to help us, told staff person again we were stranded and needed help. staff person said he would call us back and send help. he never called back and we both in our seventies walked back to the club house. the golf shop was locked only person onsite was a young boy putting golf carts away. if at all possible do not play this course. recommend the views golf club a short distance away.
always in good shape
played again this past weekend with a very good friend,he said he had not played there before but i thought he had, he stated he knew why i liked to play this course has great views it a fun track and is invery good shape and condition and a great pace of play...we played in about 4 hours as a twosome behind several foursomes
This used to be a fantastic course
To be kind, the ownership/management changes have really challenged the staff here to keep the course working in good condition. The practice area is not one of our favorites. What you practice on has no correlation to the course.
Hole 2 is an awkward Par 5 and can certainly cause a bunch of early pace of play issues.
The cookies are good.
great day for golf in arizona
played today, excellent day beautiful weather mid70's courses in very good shape pace of play was great played in less than 3 hours 12:20pm tee time no one was in front of us and had a great time shot 41 on the front nine was playing good for my game to top off the day at the tunnel between 16 and 17 saw two bobcats just having a good time playing with each other what a sight ...
Pretty good, not great
Conditioning is not what it used to be at this place.
Some nice views and some good holes. Prettty good value overall
Target Golf
I'd like to start off by saying the staff was exceptional and very professional. There was two of us today to play the course and we do not live in Arizona. We flew in to Arizona and staying in Tempe. It was raining in Tempe but not in Tucson so that is why we went here. While traveling in and even close there are NO SIGNS for the golf course. We had to stop more than once and ask someone walking where the course was at and where would the clubhouse could be located. After finding the clubhouse we said something to the staff about the troubles finding the clubhouse and they need some signs. We were told the "association" would not allow them to put signs up. Really? Wealthy people get what ever they want I guess.
We ate prior to playing and the food was very good. Service was first class. Used the driving range and practice area. It was in good shape and the range balls were not wore out.
Now the course rating. Shape wise the course was beautiful from tee to green.Very well maintained and something that would be expected. We played the gold which is right about 6400 yards. This course is 100% target golf. Only used driver on two holes. A lot of Irons and hybrids from the tee's. Landing areas are tricky and there were a lot of force carry. If you are a short hitter tee it forward. We both are 6 handicap and the gold is what was suggested by the staff.
Greens were in great shape. However they are undulating and I don't know what was up with the superintendent but the flags were in stupid positions. A lot of the flags were tucked in the corners and on the edges of the slope on the green. We call it goofy golf cause it's goofy and unfair positions.
Overall had a nice time because where we live there is snow on the ground. Would not play here again but it's worth playing once just for the views.
Great Golf Course
went to play this course again as it was wild card weekend and the Cowboys had a bye, staff is very friendly from the outside services guys to the golf shop to the snack bar girls to the beverage cart girl, course is in great shape and the greens roll pure but hard to read, best bet is to read from every angle and then see if they break towards tucson towards the setting sun, hardly anyone on the course you will basically have it to yoursellf..that is a fun time to not really see anyone while playing golf here
Best layout in Tucson
This course is my favorite layout in the Tucson area. Unfortunately, the maintenance doesn't measure up. I have played this course for the past 15 years on my visits to Tucson. It use to be excellent, declined over time, but it starting to improve again but has some ways to go.
Wow!
Beautiful views of the Catalina Mts. Interesting, fun, and challenging layout for all golfers. Gorgeous landscaping. I highly recommend this great course.
Great challenging golf
First time played in 10 yrs. , but it is still a great and challenging course. If you are a hacker, then I would not recommend this course. Had a great time and the staff was great and very helpful.
Short course with targets to hit
You don't need to be long just down the middle with right yardage. Some holes set up better being on right side of fairway too. driver on just two holes with hybrid and 3 wood on most holes. There's a short funky hole with two short landing areas on the back nine. 230 to hole took 3 wood to drive green too much club lol. Playing this course again would change many of my shot selection
One of my favorite courses in Tucson area
Vistoso is a great place to play. Beautiful course, well maintained, good rate of play and great staff. I love playing Vistoso.
Not for hackers
We arrived and we're treated great. Course was open so we were allowed to go off right away. Course plays very tough for anyone that has trouble getting off the tee box. Nearly every hole has a minimum carry of 50 yards into desert area. If you hit a low runner, you will be in trouble. Some of the fairways narrow up and positional play is critcal. Course wanders through houses and vegetation and unless you come upon another group, the course is yours. Recommend for good to better golfers.
Nice Greens
Friendly staff. Cart girl is a gem! Very green, not much brown there. Greens were nearly perfect. Most were rolling smooth and pretty soft so you could go right for the pins. Tee boxes were in good shape. Lots of wild life. A real joy to play!
Vistoso
The fairways were in great shape due to all of the rain. They had some sort of a shotgun start and we started on the back nine. The greens needed cut and rolled we had to follow the guy changing the pin locations for about 6 holes.. The front nine was much better the greens were cut and the ball rolled much better. Over all a good day for golf. The beverage cart came by around every 3-4 holes.
Golf
Nice track but greens needed to be cut and rolled. In 2 weeks the greens should be great
Like being on vacation
Vistoso is in beautiful condition. I play lots of different courses and many others have cut back on watering and the fairways show it. Not Vistoso. From tee box to green the grass is gorgeous! The staff is very friendly and pro shop is stocked with lots of appealing apparel. If you're looking for a great driving range and a desert course with beautiful views -- head to Vistoso!
bad
Very very poor fairway conditions
not sure where you live, but this is not goofy golf, this is one of the best golf courses in the greater tucson area and yes playing it for the first time it may appear that there are forced carries but not really the greens are true and flags are placed in good areas...this course is not for the high handicapped player but for a good to better than average player
