San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) is a local favorite that is known not only for its unique layout, but also for being one of the best values in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Playing the course is like getting two for one since the front and back nines differ so dramatically. The front nine, also called the "valley nine," runs along the floor of the San Tan foothills. This nine offers generous fairways and longer holes while the back nine rises into the San Tan Mountains. San Tan Highlands back nine is much hillier with elevated tees and undulating greens. It is more challenging than the front, but they blend together nicely for a round of golf that is both challenging and playable. There is also a driving range and practice putting and chipping greens with a bunker available at the club as well.

- It is a very good course to play with wonderful scenery to look at. It is a desert course so you have to be really accurate with where you land the ball so that you end up on the fairways and greens. Other than that it is a course every good golfer should try out and test their game with.
